How does Stash work?

Stash is an SEC registered investment adviser. While such registration does not imply a certain level of skill, it does require us to follow federal regulations that protect you, the investor. By law, we have a duty to provide investment advice that is in the best interest of our clients. As a client, you get access to an FDIC insured debit account.2 When you sign up for Stash, you can pick the subscription plan that best fits your needs. Every plan comes with an investment account and optional bank account2. You can invest in fractional shares of companies you already know with just $5. We offer personalized guidance to help you learn as you go. Our banking accounts2 come with no overdraft fees1, the opportunity to get paid up to two days early4, and a debit card that lets you earn stock as you spend3. As your needs change, you can switch your plan to access features like retirement saving, investment accounts for kids, and 2X Stock-Back rewards3. Learn more about our plans.

Why should I start investing now?

The sooner you start investing, the greater your chance of benefiting from compound returns. It’s the reason you might not want to put off investing any longer, because it takes time to experience the effect. Here’s why... Let's say you invested $20 a week. After 20 years, your $20,800 investment would be worth over $34,000. (Assuming a 5% compound annual return).

Why do you need my Social Security number?

The Patriot Act requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person opening an account. We also require your Social Security number to issue you a tax reporting form at the end of the year. Your Social Security number is only used to verify your identity. Stash does not perform a credit check.

Is the money invested in my Stash Account protected?

Your investments with Stash are protected by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). All holdings and cash are held at APEX Clearing Corp. For more information on SIPC insurance, please visit www.sipc.org
