Investor Sign Up Guide

Open your account in 3 easy steps. It’ll only take a few minutes.

1. Create Your Profile

First we ask for information that’s required to open your account, like your contact info. We’ll ask you a few questions that’ll help us personalize your Stash experience, and determine which investments to recommend for you.

2. Select Your First Investment

We’ll guide you through your first investment. Stash only shows you investments that would make sense for your financial situation, so that you can make smarter investment decisions. We’ll suggest a few investments to help get you started in building a diversified foundation for your portfolio1, and you can begin investing with as little little as $5. This is just a starting point. ­­You’ll be able to add more investments later ­­and we’ll provide help along the way.

3. Choose Your Funding Account

In this step, you will link your checking account, so you can transfer funds between your bank and Stash. You can link your checking account directly using your online account login information or by going through a micro-­deposit verification process. Either way, moving money is free.   1. Choose your bank from the list. Enter your bank username and password, and choose the checking account you’d like to use for Stash. Depending on your bank’s policies, you may be asked for more security information.
  2. If you don’t see your bank listed, select “More Banks” at the bottom of the bank selection screen. Enter your bank account and routing numbers. In 1 to ­3 business days, you will receive two small deposits into your account. When you see them, come back to the Stash app and confirm the amounts.

Please remember to make sure that the funding account you choose has enough funds to cover your transfers.

If you request a transfer during the signup process, the funds won’t be transferred until after your Stash account is approved. It can take 2­ to 3 business days for the funds to arrive in your Stash account. ​ Keep in mind that business days are Monday to ­Friday excluding federal banking holidays.

4. Verify Your Identity

In order for you to start investing, Stash is required by law to verify your identity. Stash is currently available to people who live in the U.S., and who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or who have certain types of valid U.S. Visas. If we are unable to verify your identity given the information you provided, you will be directed to review the information and make any changes (e.g., correct a typo you may have made in the application process). If the information you review has all been entered correctly, you will be required to upload a document to validate the information.

Sometimes there are account identification issues that need to be resolved by speaking with a customer service representative. In that case, a member of our team will reach out to you within 1 to ­3 business days and help you get your account opened.
